One of my favorite movies is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. I have been thinking about the famous quote from it, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it," and how that feels pretty apt right now when it comes to AI and Automation.
Things are moving so fast that if you are not paying attention and trying to understand where the landscape is and where it is going, you can get left behind pretty quickly.
There are a lot of terms and platforms being talked about right now. ChatGPT. Claude. Agentic workflows. AI assistants. Workflow automations. Figma Make. Local and Hosted Internal LLMs, MCP Servers, Code generation tools. Testing tools like Playwright. This is just a very small portion. It's a lot to keep up with, and the list keeps growing, seemingly hourly.
We are not looking at AI and automation implementations like agentic workflows as one single thing. Their impact extends across engineering, QA, design, operations, and client services. The impact is starting to show up across a lot of different disciplines.
For clients, AI and automation can help support the work, but it does not replace the relationship. Understanding needs, gathering requirements, talking through feedback, collaborating on solutions, and helping make the right decisions still requires real people. The tools may help us organize information, move faster, or improve the process behind the scenes, but the day-to-day communication and partnership with clients is still a core part of the value Troy Web provides.
For engineering teams, AI can help with code generation and reviews, documentation, debugging, and exploring possible solutions. It does not replace the developer making technical decisions, but it can help get to a better starting point faster.
For QA teams, automation tools can help run repeatable tests, validate workflows, and catch issues earlier. This lets QA spend more time on deeper testing, edge cases, and the user experience items that require critical thinking and human judgment.
Beyond just prototyping, AI is becoming a powerful bridge between design systems and final implementation. By using AI agents that can interpret design files, component structures, and layout constraints, we can ensure that what is designed stays in sync with what is built. This moves us away from manual design handoffs and towards a continuous feedback loop where AI helps validate that the code matches the intended design system, catching drift automatically and ensuring that our design artifacts function as a living, machine-readable source of truth.
For Operations, AI can help summarize notes, organize action items, draft process documents, identify gaps, and make scattered information easier to work with. But the essential ingredient to delivering the value of AI and automation work is the “Human in the Loop”, to guide and decide how to apply the work and ensure its value.
There are a lot of options out there, but the tool is not the strategy. Just because something can be automated does not mean it should be. Just because an AI tool can generate something does not mean it is applicable, complete, or ready to use.
The real value is understanding where these tools can make meaningful improvements. . Where can they eliminate repetitive work? Improve quality? Accelerate delivery without losing context? Support the people doing the work rather than creating additional complexity?
AI prompting, automation, and agentic workflows are all going to keep evolving. Some tools will be useful. Some will be noise. Some will sound better in a demo than they actually are in real project work.
So the goal is not to chase every new thing. The goal is to learn the landscape, try what makes sense, and use the tools that actually improve the process, the work, and the outcome for the client.
At the end of the day, AI and automation should help teams do better work, not replace the thinking, remove the people, or create more confusion. It’s changing fast, and that can certainly cause anxiety. But remember, life and the AI landscape moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. So, slow down, stay curious, and enjoy the ride.
