In healthcare, time isn't just money—it’s often life or death. Whether it's a patient portal, a remote monitoring tool, or an internal EHR dashboard, healthcare software UX must be as intuitive as it is compliant. Poor user experience can slow down care, increase risk, and frustrate clinicians and patients alike. What is great user experience (UX)? It empowers users and supports better outcomes.
We’ve seen firsthand how thoughtful UX for healthcare reduces friction and makes software safer, smarter, and more human.

The High Stakes of UX in Healthcare
Healthcare software usability isn’t about aesthetics—it’s about reducing cognitive load, minimizing clicks, and aligning software with how real medical professionals work and care for their patients. These are not optional conveniences; they are operational necessities.
From overburdened nurses using electronic charting to administrators navigating compliance workflows, the risks of a poorly designed interface range from staff burnout to patient harm. That’s why we embed user-centered design for healthcare software into the foundation of every project.
“In healthcare, great design is as much about risk management as it is about aesthetics. By simplifying complex workflows and clarifying the user’s path, we reduce error and cognitive strain. But equally important, design builds trust and confidence—the combined ecosystem of creative decisions is what makes software feel safe, reliable, and human.” - Jake Cooper, Senior Designer / Analyst
What UX-Driven Healthcare Software Looks Like
Effective custom healthcare software prioritizes speed, clarity, and role-based simplicity. It doesn’t just “look good”—it works without making the user think.
We design and develop systems that:
Reduce cognitive load in complex workflows—so clinicians can focus on patients, not software.
Tailor views by user role—so a physician sees different data than a billing coordinator or technician.
Comply with regulations while supporting usability—especially in HIPAA-governed environments.
Streamline key tasks with fast load times, smart defaults, and intuitive navigation.
Our work extends to building HIPAA-compliant platforms and redesigning legacy interfaces to meet evolving healthcare user experience expectations.
Outcomes, Not Just Interfaces
We’re not in the business of pretty screens—we’re in the business of meaningful results.
Designing for What’s Next with My Essentials

We partnered with My Essentials to build a future-ready solution by reimagining the back end for dynamic content and integrations, while evolving the front end for improved accessibility and engagement. We designed the interface as a functional upgrade, not just a facelift, through user research, workflow mapping, and mobile-first designs. The result is a scalable, accessible interface supporting current and future business needs. Learn more about how we design for what’s next.
Preparing Students for a Career in Healthcare with Caring Gene

Caring Gene launched the Career Pathways Training (CPT) Program, offering full tuition and book coverage for 13 approved healthcare and social care titles, along with career prep, placement, and academic support. Troy Web designed and built their new WordPress website, focusing on visual impact. Designs, including a double helix motif and custom icons, were iterated in Figma. Once approved, the WordPress team implemented styles and enhanced the user experience for future New York State healthcare workers.
We build HIPAA compliant software design systems with real-world constraints in mind—privacy, security, and accessibility are not negotiable.
UX Is a Strategic Lever—Not a Luxury
In healthcare, good UX isn’t optional—it’s a competitive advantage. It boosts adoption, ensures compliance, supports ease of use, and protects organizations from risk.
Thoughtful UX design also enables smoother integrations with AI, IoT, and RPM technologies, making platforms more scalable and future-ready.
And it doesn’t always require a full rebuild. Small improvements—like simplifying a form or reordering fields—can dramatically improve the experience across the board.
